Fractions 

In Maths this week we will be looking at fractions. A fraction is a part of a whole. 

We will begin the week with recapping halves. When you halve something, you separate it into 2 equal parts. When written as a fraction, half looks like this:

 

We will then move onto quarters. When you split something into quarters, it is shared between 4. One of these 4 is a quarter. When written as a fraction, a quarter looks like this:

Now have a go at finding a half or a quarter of a quantity. Use drawings or resources to help you - dried pasta is a great resource!

We will end the week with looking at thirds. When you separate something into thirds, you share between 3. One of these 3 is a third. When written as a fraction, a third looks like this:
