Tiger in a Tropical Storm

Tiger in a Tropical Storm is an 1891 oil-on-canvas painting by Henri Rousseau. It was the first of the jungle paintings for which the artist is known. It shows a tiger, illuminated by a flash of lightning, preparing to pounce on its prey in the midst of a raging gale.

Can you research Henri Rousseau and his art to find more of his animal or jungle paintings?

Have a go at drawing your own version of Tiger in a Tropical Storm. It doesn't have to look exactly the same if you don't want it to. Choose your colours carefully when colouring it in. There are so many different shades of green and yellow.

Here is a picture of Miss Apsey's version of Tiger in a Tropical Storm. She started by drawing each piece of grass from the bottom of the page and adding in the body parts of the tiger as she came to them. Miss Apsey made sure that she kept looking back at the picture to gather information about the shapes of the leaves, trees, plants and grass. Miss Apsey then did the tree and the plants after the grass and the tiger were finished.
