Dear Children

On Friday 8th May 2020, our country will be celebrating VE Day. It was due to be a national holiday for everybody, with lots of celebrations planned. At our school, we would have had an assembly to talk about the celebration and what it meant for people in the United Kingdom. Please look at the powerpoint below, which we would have used in assembly. There is a downloadable poster to plan your own celebrations if you would like to. I know Bishops Waltham Parish Council have organised for everyone to have a 'Stay at Home' Garden Party to celebrate.

All resources have been used from the Scotland Poppy website. The link to the site is at the end if you would like to do more activities (lots aimed at older children).

We hope you all enjoy celebrating in your own way. When I was younger, I loved listening to stories about the war time from my grandmother, especially all the fashion hacks she did! That part of the Poppy Scotland website I found really interesting.  My own grandparents were married during WW2, and white material was in short supply. Here is their wedding picture. Her dress was rose coloured. I always wished I could have seen it, because it looks so beautiful!

Wishing you all a Happy VE Day! Remember to send us your photographs of your celebrations and we will upload them to our website!

Lots of Love
