Knowing Me,Knowing You. Week 2
Our literacy this week is to write a description about a friend. We will collect information about one of our friends in a 'Boxing Up' sheet which you can see below.
If you are at home perhaps you could complete one for one of your friends.
We are going to use this Boxing Up sheet to help us write a description. a bit like this:-
My friend is called Lucy. She is 5 years old.
She has got brown eyes and brown hair.
Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and a full stop.
When you have finished you could draw a picture of your friend.
Our Maths this week is practising counting in steps of 1 up to 100 or a given number, forwards and backwards.
We are going to compare numbers and identify which one is the smallest of largest and how we can prove this.
For example 2 and 5. 2 is smaller than 5. 5 is a more than 2. 2 is less than 5.
Using number cards up to 20. We are going to pick 2 or 3 or 5 number cards and place them in order. For example if you pick 9, 4 and 7 you would place them in order from smallest, 4, 7, 9. These are called non-consecutive numbers.
You can play this game with the number cards below.
If you have access to the internet 'ICT games' has a great selection of games to support maths.
'100 Hunt' - select 'Finding any number' will support counting and number recognition.
'Counting Caterpillar' will support ordering non-consecutive numbers. Select numbers 1-10 first and increase with your child's confidence.
In Year 1 we introduce the children to the cursive script.
Over the next few weeks we will be learning to form the ladder letters.
Please check out the handwriting page for more information.
