New Zealand

Our project is all about the island country New Zealand, which is in the south western Pacific Ocean.

During your Monday morning Zoom with your teacher you will watch a video all about the country.  This was made by one of Miss Salter's friends who is from New Zealand.  In this video you will see what life is like there. You need to watch this video to help you with your learning in this project.

Monday 11th January 2021

Today in your Zoom call with your teacher you will share all that you already know about New Zealand.  Don't worry if you don't know much.  That is why we are learning about it in this project.

Next you will watch a video all about New Zealand.   If you have any questions about New Zealand then you can add them to your own KWL grid.

Don't forget to use a question mark at the end of any question sentences.  It replaces the full stop.

This is another video to help you explore the boundless beauty of New Zealand, the South Pacific's most rugged and gorgeous islands.

Watch the videos below to find out all about Bay of Plenty in New Zealand.

As you watch the video you need to write notes about what you can see, what you can do and places you can visit in the Bay of Plenty.  This could be done on post it notes and stuck on a big piece of paper or you could just write a list of things in your blended learning book.  An example of what this might look like is below.

canoe,

swim in the sea,

sail in a boat.

These notes will help you write your persuasive leaflet/poster on Thursday.  We will be using these ideas in our plan tomorrow.

Today we are going to start writing different types of sentences.

You need to follow the link below to found out about the four different types of sentences.

Once you understand the different types have a go at using them following the second link.

We will also be using different sentence openers.

Take a look at yesterday's notes and now make them into a sentence.

Not just any old sentence though, we would like you to use the words because, if and when at the start!

Here is an example of a range of sentence openers. These are all called subordination

Because Bay of Plenty has so many beautiful beaches you can go swimming in the sea.

If you visit Bay of Plenty you will see lush forests with tall towering trees.

When you visit New Zealand you must visit Bay of Plenty.

I wonder if you could have a go at writing one sentence about the Bay of Plenty starting with because, if or when.

Thursday 14th January 2021

You now know more about New Zealand than you did on Monday, especially Bay of Plenty.

You also know all about different types of sentences and sentence openers.

Now you are ready to make a wonderful poster to persuade more people to visit Bay of Plenty.

Your poster will need:

  • A big, bold and colourful title.
  • Different sentence types (statement, question, command, exclamatory) Use your ideas from Wednesday but edit them to make them more effective.  You could add describing words or connectives like and or but.)
  • Different sentence openers (when, if, because
  • Punctuation (full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks, question marks, commas, apostrophes)
  • Pictures - these could go with your sentences or be dotted around.

Have fun with this and don't forget to check your spellings and use your very best handwriting!

Here are some examples of what your writing may look like

Today is time for you have a go at your weekly spelling test.  You should have been learning these all week and now feel confident to spell them on your own.  Good luck!
