Week 5

Phonics will look a little different next week. We will be focusing on reading and spelling multisyllabic words eg. cook-ie = cookie and has 2 syllables. You could look for multisyllabic words when reading together and practise breaking the word down into its syllables to read it. We will also be reading and writing sentences containing the graphemes (phonic sounds) we have already learned.

In English, we will be looking at how London changed after the Great Fire. We will be asking ourselves whether the fire was a blessing or curse. We will then be writing letters to the Lord Mayor of London from 1666, explaining how he could improve London and prevent fires from spreading again.

In Maths, we will be looking at times tables. When looking at the x symbol, we use the words times, multiply, lots of and groups of. We will be using arrays, pictures and resources to help us with our times tables. It’s really important for your child to be able to count in 2s, 5s and 10s for this so any practise at home would be really helpful.

During our project time, we will be carrying out a quiz and getting outside to produce some transient art! We can’t wait to try this for the first time.
