Halving and Doubling

We are learning how to half and double numbers. You can half and double by drawing a picture or you might be able to do this in your head already. To get you started try this mental arithmetic game and see if you can beat your high score.

Division

Halving can also be written as a division number sentence. Sometimes we draw arrays to solve these number sentences. Look at the arrays below, can you work out what the number sentences should be?

You can also solve division problems by seeing how many 2s, 5s or 10s are in the number. 

For example: 8 ÷ 2 could be worked out by counting in 2s up to 8 and seeing how many 2s are in 8 using your fingers.
