Year R
EYFS
Physical activity is vital in children’s all-round development, enabling them to pursue happy, healthy and active lives.
We believe young children learn best through play and in Year R they experience activities which help to develop both their gross and fine motor skills. Children enjoy physical play, both indoors and out.
These are some of the gross motor skills that the children take part in during their learning:
- Monkey bars
- Riding bikes
- Jumping
- Crawling through tunnels
- Balancing
- Running
- Apparatus
- Large construction equipment
These activities develop body management, balance, bodily co-ordination, strength, agility and confidence
Children also have opportunities to develop their fine motor skills using different equipment and tools such as:
- Tweezers
- Paints and pencils
- Jigsaws
- Threading
- Construction
- Paint, pencils
- Cutting
- Playdoh
- Nuts and bolts
These activities promote hand-eye co-ordination, spatial awareness, fine motor control, accuracy, two handed co-ordination and manipulative strength.
