Risk Assessment

We are going to use lots of equipment over the next few weeks to create our wheeled vehicles. Some of this equipment can be dangerous if not used carefully. We would like you to think about some of these pieces of equipment and consider their risks. Draw a picture of the hazard (the dangerous object), record it's risk (score out of 10) and write a sentence to show how you can make this hazard less dangerous.

Look at the investigation below to see what equipment you could choose in your risk assessment.

Joining Investigation

To carry out this investigation, you will need (all or some) of the following:

  • paper
  • cardboard
  • plastic
  • felt
  • buttons
  • pritt stick
  • PVA glue
  • sellotape
  • double-sided sticky tape
  • glue gun
  • stapler and staples
  • masking tape
  • scissors
  • needle and thread

Open up the 'Challenge Cards' document and complete the challenges; finding out the best ways to join different materials to each other. Record your findings in the 'Results Table' document.

Using the results of your above investigation, complete this sheet from your DT booklet. What materials do you think you will need to make your wheeled vehicle? What resources will you need?
