Week 2 14.9.20

We're All In This Together!

Week 2

Literacy

This week we will be finding out how to be a good friend and will be writing a set of instructions for someone new to the school.  We will play lots of games and do some role play to ensure we all know what makes a good friend.

Are you a good friend?  Have you got a good friend?  Why are they your friend? Thinking about them might help you when you write your instructions.

We will also be learning a fabulous new story this week called The Little Red Hen.  Watch out for a video of the tale with actions to help you learn it off by heart.

Pie Corbett telling the Little Red Hen Story

Enjoy Pie Corbett telling the Little Red Hen Story. We will be learning a version of this story in class. Watch out for the actions he uses and join in.

Below are some wonderful resources to help you with your learning at home this week.

Mathematics

This week we will be learning all about number and place value.  This means we will be doing lots of counting and understanding the value of a number using hundreds, tens and ones.

We will find out where a number sits within a number line, number track or hundred square.  We like to use objects and images to help us with this.  Here is a handy image of the number 35.  There are 3 tens in 35 and 5 ones.  Put them together and you get 35. We also say 3 tens is 30.  Add the 5 ones and you equal 35.

We will also look at making sure the tens number always goes first, otherwise you would get 53 which is 5 tens and 3 ones...a very different amount.

During our project time this week we will be thinking about what makes an effective school and classroom. We would like you to think about your time in Bishops Waltham Infant School and what has worked really well.  Think about the things you liked in Year R or what helped you to learn in Year 1.

There is a fun multiple choice quiz for you to take part in and a bubble map to complete all about what makes an effective classroom.
