Life on the Ocean Wave

As you know, we will be going on our first school trip of the year to HMS Victory in the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. The children are really excited about this and so are we! Thank you to the parents who have offered to help; you will have been contacted if you are needed.

Before we head off on our school trip, we will be finding out what the children already know about HMS Victory, Lord Nelson and The Battle of Trafalgar – don’t worry if your child doesn’t know anything; that’s what this project is for! As we find out what we know, questions will arise so we will be recording the questions we have and we may be able to ask them on our trip. The children will also have a chance to use the HMS Victory Virtual Tour this week before heading to the ship in real life!

In English and Phonics we will be looking at the possessive apostrophe and adding ‘s’ or ‘es’ onto words to make them plural. Perhaps you could be looking out for these things when you are reading together. On Friday, we will also be creating a plan of a recount of our school trip.

In Maths we will be looking at addition and subtraction again. This is such an important part of Maths and really is the building blocks for trickier challenges. We will be adding 1-digit numbers to 2-digit numbers, 2-digit numbers to 2-digit numbers, answering word problems, finding the missing number in missing number calculations and looking at the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. There will also be chances for more problem-solving and reasoning, too.
