Handwriting

In Year 2 we use a cursive handwriting script, leading towards joining up.

The letter families the children know from Year R and Year 1 are the same:-

• ladder letters
• curly caterpillar letters
• one armed robot letters
• zig zag letters

 

Now each letter will have a lead in and out and every letter starts on the line.

 

Below is a guide to the letter families and the letter formation.

 

         

There are lots of ways to practise letter formation and handwriting.

• paint brush and water on a wall or patio
• painting the letters
• using chalk or felt tips
• using a finger in a tray of sand, shaving foam or flour
• using different coloured paper or on large pieces of paper
