  • Outdoor Learning Day

Mon 24 May 2021 Miss Apsey

    Dear parents and carers,

The children had a fantastic day for Outdoor Learning Day last week. Despite the rain, we got outside and had so much fun taking part in the different activities. Hopefully your children have told you all about what they got up to and have brought home some of the things they made. You may have seen photos on Tapestry or on the Trailblazer Page already. If you haven't, do make sure you check Tapestry and click the link below to see photos of the children from all of the year groups.

    Best wishes,

  • Outdoor Learning

Fri 14 May 2021 Miss Apsey

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Did you know we are a Trailblazer School? This means we promote learning outdoors. We have been working hard to get the children outside as much as possible and, hopefully, you have seen this reflected in our Tapestry posts. You can also see lots of photos of the children learning outside on the Trailblazer page on our website. See the link below.

    https://www.bwis.org.uk/trailblazers/

Next week we will be celebrating National Outdoor Learning Day! This is a global movement to make time outdoors part of every child’s day. Each class has been challenged to spend at least an hour outside on this day. They will be taking part in a range of exciting activities so watch out for photos and videos on our website and on Tapestry.

We will soon be creating opportunities for you to get involved with Trailblazers. We will let you know when we have this up and running and look forward to seeing photos and hearing about what you get up to outside with your children.

    Best wishes,

    Miss Apsey and Miss Campbell

  • 2021 Schools' Bird Box Project

    Wed 05 May 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Update - there are 9 eggs!

"When will our chicks fledge and leave the nest?" is a question many of us will be asking over the coming weeks? The adult bird will often sit on a clutch of blue tit eggs for around 15 days. Then once the eggs have hatched the chicks will spend another 19 to 21 days in the nest growing before they fledge (leave the nest) and learn to find and catch food for themselves. Add these two figures together and the average Blue Tit or small garden bird will spend in total between 38-40 days in the nest from the moment the egg is first visible to the day it flies away.

The young chicks should start appearing very soon and will fledge and disappear between the last week in May and the first 10 days in June.

So set your watches and keep your eyes peeled from around the 25th May onwards!

  • Julie Sykes - author visit to school

    Tue 04 May 2021 L Salter

What a fantastic morning we had today with the wonderful author, Julie Sykes.   Julie has written over 100 books and has a wealth of knowledge, ideas and experience that can inspire us all to get reading and writing.

Julie read Year R a story called 'That Pesky Dragon' and was able to answer a question from Owl Class.

Julie then met all of the children in Year 1 and 2.  She was able to show us really special things like her magic box of things that help her to write (including ice cream!), her office where she keeps all of the books she has written and we even got to meet her dog.

Year 1 and 2 asked some fantastic questions including 'which book are you most proud of?' and 'which book is your favourite?'

We were so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet Julie and thank her for her time and inspiration.

Julie will be sending us some of her stories to share in our library, which we can't wait to read.
