  • Weekly Update Friday 12th May

    Fri 12 May 2023

The children were full of excitement coming into school on Tuesday after their Coronation Celebrations on the weekend. Many of the children talked of the fun they had at the Palace Ruins, and thankfully the weather stayed nice on the day.

We are still making a plea for bottle donations. In the past, we have had about 200 bottles donated, and the stall was always a firm favourite. Currently we have around 30 bottles, and won't be quite the same! Please send in any bottles next week, but hey must arrive before Friday in order to have the raffle tickets put on.

Thank you so much to the parents who are helping behind the scenes for our summer fayre. It is the biggest PTA event of the year, and we are hoping to raise much needed funds for our school.

This week, we have been informed that the school dinner cost is going up to £3 per child in June per day. We only receive £2.41 per child per day from the government, leaving us to take 59p per day per child out of our school budget to subsidise the cost. I will be taking this huge cost, If 175 children have a dinner each day (our current figures) then this means we are paying a shortfall of £103.25 per day. This totals a huge £19,617.50. Myself and the Governing Body are going to look at this huge deficit, as our budget cannot sustain this shortfall. We are also looking to other school meal providers and costs by other companies.

We have noticed some children starting to being in flavoured drinks in their water bottles. It is strictly water only in water bottles, as per our policy. If children would like to bring in flavoured drink to have with their lunch in addition to their water bottle, which can be juice or squash, please make sure it is a clearly labelled bottle/carton. This will then be put in a different place to the water bottles ready for lunch time (please note, Prime and fizzy drinks are not allowed).

We are opening our pond and learning classroom on Monday afternoon with Mr Howell, who kindly donated money to redo the pond, his team of volunteers and our PTA who raised money towards the outside classroom. We will update with pictures from the event on our latest news.

    Wishing everybody a lovely weekend

  • Our Coronation Celebration

    Fri 05 May 2023

What a super day we all had today, celebrating the coronation of King Charles III. We dressed very regally to come to school and had lots of fun designing and making our own crowns to wear.

We had a visit from Mrs Wilkinson and Mr Stoop in assembly, who brought in special commemorative keyrings for every child from Bishops Waltham Parish Council. What lucky children we have!

The rain was not kind to us today, so we brought our Royal Picnic indoors. We started by singing 'God Save the King' and then we were happy munching! Click our link below:

    God Save the King

We had a glorious, memorable day. The Parish Council have also invited all the children and their families to a special celebration on Sunday 7th May at the Palace Ruins in Bishops Waltham. The fun starts at  12 o'clock and there will be a band, magicians, games and refreshments-entry is free to all, so take a picnic and join the fun!

We hope you enjoy the long celebratory Bank Holiday Weekend. Some of our pictures are below, and there will be lots of other pictures on Tapestry from each Year Group.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Royal Coronation Celebration

We will be celebrating the King's coronation in style this year with a picnic fit for a king. We will also be learning all about the coronation, and making the day special and memorable for the children. The details are below:

    Where: BWIS

Food: Our lunch on the day will be picnic lunches, hopefully outside, provided by HC3S. If you would like your child to bring their own picnic lunch instead, please do. Dress Code: We will be designing and making crowns in school, but you are welcome to bring in a crown from home, if you wish. Bishops Waltham's Clubs for Children

As you know, we have a range of popular clubs for children at our school. CM Sports run our after school club, and also our football club, we also have Dance Kids and Taekwondo at our school too.

In the community of Bishops Waltham and surrounding areas, we have many excellent clubs. We have the excellent Dynamos Football Club at Priory Park for all aged children (which I see many parents at from our school),  BW Cubs and Beavers, Roynon's Performing Arts, Swanmore Activeme 360 Holiday clubs and many more. Over the next few weeks we will be developing our 'Community' section for clubs to advertise to our parents and children, so we can signpost everybody to the right page. If you are a club leader, or your child goes to the club, please can you send us the information and website so that our parents can be informed of clubs they can join.

Lastly, we have a number of surplus Year 1/R tables and chairs available free to parents/community. They are currently near our PTA shed. If you would like to take any home for your children to use, please come to the school during school hours and help yourselves.

    Lunchtime

During the week we celebrate children talking quietly and politely in the hall at lunchtimes with 'Quiet Table' awards. these are trophies that sit on the table and are given out by the lunchtime team. The team also invites one member of each class to sit on the 'Golden' table on Fridays. These are children who have displayed our Badger Values all lunchtime. We also have lots of games and items to play with outside during lunch. If you would like to come and be part of our friendly lunchtime team, we are advertising for a position. Please pick up an application form from our school office.

Wishing you a lovely weekend-fingers crossed the rain eases off!

  • Weekly Update- Friday 31st March

    Fri 31 Mar 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers

What a busy week we have had this week! Year 1 made smoothies for Year R children to try as their learning outcome. Year R were busy beavers, planting around our school and Year 2 have been amazing writers and mathematicians.

We learned about the Easter story in Assembly this week, and the children were full of curiosity about the different events in the story. Our PTA worked tirelessly to organise our Easter Egg hunt and the weather was very kind to us this year! Have a peek at some of the pictures below:

    Easter Egg Hunt 2023

We held our Annual Easter Competition in the hall, with lots and lots of entries. Our two judges this year were Judy Marsh and Tracy Conduct from the Parish Council. They were very impressed by the creativity and hard work that went into all the hats. There were 14 main prizes per class and everyone had an egg for entering. Pictures of all the hats are here:

    Easter Bonnet Competition 2023

We have had a great time this week drawing our Royal portraits for the Children in Need 'Royally Big Portrait'. Parents will need to upload their pictures by April 21st, and details and portraits have been sent home this week. Don't worry if you lose your details as they can also be found here

Children in Need Royally Big Portrait

The standard of our portraits are very high, and you can find a few below.

We also have exciting news this holiday-Miss Campbell is getting married! We wish her and Sam all the best from everyone at BWIS. When Miss Campbell returns, her new name will be Mrs Withers (I'm sure Owl Class will remember it by the end of the summer!)

And that brings us to the end of Spring Term. We wish all our families a lovely Easter break and look forward to seeing you in the Summer Term.

    Best Wishes

  • PCSO Sarah and the School Council

Wed 29 Mar 2023 Kate Charles

Today, PCSO Sarah came to school to look at parking outside school with the School Council. The School Council came in early, put their high vis vests on and stood with Sarah to check that no-one was parking on the double yellow lines or zig-zags.

Sadly, there were some cars that pulled up on the zig-zags right in front of PCSO Sarah and the School Council and Sarah had to speak to them and give the driver one of the special parking notices designed by children at Bishops Waltham Infant School. The School Council couldn’t believe that adults would put children in danger by doing this!

The School Council are going to make Sarah some new signs and meet with her again after the Easter holidays.

  • Weekly Update Friday 24th March

    Wed 22 Mar 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers

We have had a busy week this week in our classes. As signs of spring are all around us, they have appeared indoors too! Year R have been busy planting and growing, and  their gardens they have made for home learning are very inventive! Have a little peek at them here:

    Year R Gardens

Year 2 have been busy making their games and learning facts about Lord Nelson. Their Learning Outcome was fantastic today and I loved playing their games- what a creative Year 2 you are! Take a look at some of the fabulous games here:

    Year 2 Nelson Games

Our PTA have been at the front gate selling tickets for our Easter Egg hunt on Thursday 29th March. We have one eye on the weather at the moment, as the year we did our hunt in the heavy rain was not fun for the children (or the parents). If there are any changes to the date/time we will give plenty of notice.

Year 1 have been working with Year R on designing some fruit smoothies, according to Year R's fruit likes. Year R are looking forward to the outcomes next week!

This year there is an exciting opportunity for your child's art to join hundred's of other children's artwork for the coronation of King Charles run by Children in Need. We will send out the parent letters on how to upload next week, and the information about this can be found here

Children in Need's Royally Big Portrait 2023

It was our penultimate week of lunchtime clubs this week. All the teachers have had great fun running their clubs for Year 2 children again this year. My lego club had great fun following instructions this week and can’t wait to bring them home next week. To find out more about the Lunchtime Clubs that have run this year for Year 2, click the link below:

I look forward to seeing our parent quizzers this evening, and wish you all a lovely weekend.

  • Weekly Update Friday 17th March

    Fri 17 Mar 2023

    Dear Parents and Carers

We monitored maths across the school this week, and observed high quality teaching and task design supporting children’s understanding of maths. All the children spoke positively about the maths they were doing and were happy to share their learning. Looking through the books, there was clear evidence of the tasks being adapted to the needs of the learners, with evidence of support and extension too. Well done to all of our teachers who clearly enjoy  teaching maths and have excellent subject knowledge in this area.

Thank you to our staff who have dug over our vegetable beds ready for planting and cleared our potting shed. They look great and are all ready for our classes to plant now Spring is coming.

Our Red Nose Day celebration this year was organised by our School Council members who voted for non uniform. The children had a great day showing off their style to their friends. Thank you to everyone who have contributed to our Red Nose Charity page.

Our PTA have been really busy organising the quiz and our Easter Egg hunt in the last week of March. Remember our Easter Bonnet competition is on the last day of term too.

If anybody has some time to cover our extra home phonic reading books in sticky back plastic, please come and let me know. We have a few packs left to do before we can give them out.

Thank you for the frogspawn donations for the Year R classes. It is always an awe and wonder moment when they start to change and grow legs. The children love watching the changes over the weeks.

This weekend is the last weekend of the rugby 6 Nations tournament. Congratulations to Ireland who look like they will be winning the tournament and happy St Patrick’s day too. Our children enjoyed finding out about Irish traditions and food in Assembly this week.  Better luck next time to our other home nations.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

    Best wishes

    Mrs Riches
