IMPORTANT. Monday 19th September the School will be closed
Mon 12 Sep 2022I am sure many of you have seen by now that schools and colleges will be closed on Monday 19th September as there is a national bank holiday for the state funeral of the Queen.
Here is the message from the Department of Education to schools:
"Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace of the death of our sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a period of National Mourning has started and will continue until the end of the State Funeral. This is a period of time for reflection in response to the death of the Sovereign.
Guidance providing the public, businesses and institutions with advice on the period of National Mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been issued by the Cabinet Office.
The official date of the State Funeral is 19 September 2022. This day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect. This will include schools and colleges."

Welcome Back
Fri 09 Sep 2022Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to our Autumn Term. When we opened our doors on Monday, none of us could predict how the week would end. We held a special assembly for Year 1 and 2 children today in memory of Queen Elizabeth. I know some of our children were very sad coming into school today and lots of questions were asked. We will continue to guide and support our children through the coming few weeks.
Our Year 2 children finished their Road Safety practical lessons this week, and their certificates will be coming home soon. Thank you to Miss Apsey, our Year 2 Leader, and her team for the organisation and participation in this life skill.
Year 1 are enjoying playing on the ‘big’ playground all the time and have had an exciting week catching up with their friends and choosing their classroom areas. Mrs Moth, our Year 1 Leader, has enjoyed getting to know the Year 1 children whilst welcoming Miss Beckley to the Year 1 team.
Our new Year R children have been getting used to school and making new friends. It was lovely getting to know some of the new parents who stayed for a coffee on the first day back. Miss Turner, our Year R Leader, said everyone in her team are looking forward to all the children staying all day on Monday.
I hope you all have a restful weekend, and have my fingers crossed that the rain will stop for us to enjoy the last little bit of summer.
Best wishes
Mrs Riches

Last few days of term
Tue 19 Jul 2022What a lovely Leavers' Assembly we had today. It was very special under the canopy of the trees and the children and audience thoroughly enjoyed themselves. All Year 2 leavers received a special book to remember their time at the infant school too. The scenery was lovely and the show ran without a hitch. Thank you to everyone on the Year 2 team for all their hard work putting the show together.
We have stayed in the shady areas of the school and have continued to monitor the children through the heatwave. They have been great, and we did have a cool off today with the sprinkler-they may be a little damp coming home, but lovely and cool!
Our Year 2 disco is at 4.30pm tomorrow. Pick up and drop off is at the hall door, so please come on round. We can't wait to have a boogie with them!
On Thursday we will be saying goodbye to Mrs Barnaby, Miss Miners, Mrs Marston and Miss Campone. They will all be missed by us all, and we wish them the very best!
Louisa Milburn and George Wakely are stepping down as our Co-Chairs of Governors and Lewis Cleminson, who has been Vice Chair this year, is the new Chair of Governors from the 1st August. I am sure you will all join me in giving him a warm welcome to the role.
Cathy Wilkinson will be stepping down as Chair of our PTA, as her youngest will be going to Year 3, along with some other PTA members. I am sure you will agree that Cathy has done a brilliant job over the past few years arranging and organising events for both adults and children. She will Chair our Annual General meeting in the Autumn Term (date to be arranged), and then a new Chair will need to be voted for. So if you think this is a role within our school community that would play to your skills, please come along (dads too!). The current PTA are very well organised and have a big folder to help plan regular events, with new ideas always welcome.
We have some preliminary data for our school, and how our standards look against Hampshire, and National. The Hampshire and national results and unvalidated at the moment, and will be finalised in the Autumn Term, where we will officially publish our results. The standards can be found here:
On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone in the school community for the care and support they have shown myself and the staff this year. We have caring, supportive staff who all love teaching. We watch our children grow in confidence gaining skills and knowledge year on year. Our children love coming to school and we are united in making sure all the children in our care feel valued as they form their opinions about the world around us. We wish you the very best in the Summer Holidays and will see some of you again in September.
P.S. We have loved reading your report comments this year! Please can you fill in your thoughts on the school on Parent View (The link is below), if you haven't already done so this year. We are always looking at ways to improve. If you would like to write a more personal email, please send to class emails or the school office.

Year 2 Leaver's Assembly
Fri 15 Jul 2022What a treat Year R, Year 1 and the Year 3 children from the juniors had today. Our first ever al fresco performance! Due to the heat, we made the decision this week to take our Leaver's Performance outside. The children had to work even harder to sing loudly over the outside noise and project their voices, but rose to the challenge. The teachers and classroom assistants all rose to the challenge too, and have created the most beautiful scenery and adapting to the outside setting.
We are going to keep it outside for the performance on Tuesday at 9.30am for the Year 2 parents/carers. Parents can bring their picnic rugs to sit where the children are sitting, or chairs will be provided by school, in rows behind the picnic rugs.
We look forward to seeing Year 2 parents/carers on Tuesday morning!
