We held a fire drill on Thursday and all the children were evacuated and lined up in their classes in 2 minutes! They were super sensible and we are very proud of them all.
Cricket
Coach Isaac is super impressed with the children's throwing and aiming skills in cricket. The children are improving week on week and having lots of fun. I can see some new Ben Stokes emerging from our school!
Lunchtime Clubs
Year 2 children are having lots of fun in their lunchtime clubs. Lego Club had great fun following Batman and Joker instructions this week to make the characters. Well done to the children who became experts to teach their friends.

Congratulations to the English Cricket Team
Sun 13 Nov 2022Congratulations to the English Cricket Team who won the T20 World Cup today! A nail biting match between England and Pakistan saw England win by just 5 wickets. Phew!
I know many of the children have been taking an interest in cricket on the television, since we started training with coach Isaac. Please follow the link below to see the news report of the win

Commiserations to the Red Roses who were narrowly pipped to the win by New Zealand yesterday morning. Rugby is another sport which our Year 1 and 2 children played last half term. It was a really close game and both teams were worthy of the win. There were some brilliant examples of super teamwork and sportsmanship on the pitch too. Well done on trying your best!

Weekly Update 11th November
Wed 09 Nov 2022Remembrance Day
We observed a two minute silence in school on Friday for Remembrance Day. We also had an assembly to understand why we hold a remembrance day every year. We were sadly unable to obtain poppies for the children to purchase, but despite this many children have been wearing poppies to school. Our Remembrance Day Resources are under 'Learning Links' on the website, if you would like to find out more.
Parents Evenings
We had a great turn out for Parents' evenings where many of you were able to meet and discuss your child's learning with their class teacher. Thank you so much for the support you are giving your children at home. The school is full of happy curious children, who love learning, so thank you.
Parking
Despite many pleas from myself, parents are continuing to park in an unsafe way on the zig zags. When I was outside asking people to move on this week, many parents shared their views on the parents who refused to move their car. Before there is a serious accident outside our school, please do not park on the zig zags that have been put there for the children's safety in the morning and evening.
Healthy Heart and Mind
At Bishops Waltham Infant School we are passionate about our children, families and staff’s mental health, physical health and wellbeing. We often get asked how to get help or where to find support. This week we were sent a link to a national sleep support service that is completely free to parents. All links to support available that we become aware of, or good initiatives that we think may be useful for our whole school community, we create links to in our ‘Healthy Heart and Mind’ page, on our website. Please follow the link to find out more.

DiscoYear 1 and 2 had a fantastic time at the disco last night, where Crazy M hosted games and dancing. Thank you to all PTA helpers who stayed to help, and also all our teachers who stayed to have a boogie and help too. We were all a bit tired out after, with ‘CHOCOLATE’ ringing in our ears! Hopefully everyone slept well last night- what a way to end our week!
As I write this, our Red Roses Rugby Team are battling for the Rugby World Cup against New Zealand. It is a closely
matched game! Come on Red Roses! You can do it!
Have a great weekend everyone
Best Wishes

PARKING-PLEASE READ
Tue 08 Nov 2022Today we have been sent a photograph by a local resident of the parking outside her house this morning. Parents with pushchairs had to walk in the road, children walking to school couldn't cross safely or walk on the pavements and cars were struggling to pass.
The photographs, with visible number plates, have been forwarded to the police. Parents have also complained to me, in the last week, about the dangerous parking by parents in the school on the zigzags, making crossing unsafe outside our school.
I am going to ask all parents, again, to stop and think before you park in a way that could make the walk to school unsafe for our children and grown ups. This is not acceptable parking.
Thank you to all the parents who regularly walk to school, or park further away. We see you and are grateful that you continue to do this.

Weekly Update Friday 4th November
Fri 04 Nov 2022What a great (slightly damp) first week back we've had! Year R have been having fun in their 'Room on the Broom' caves, Year 1 have been investigating fairytales and puppets and Year 2 are learning all about New Zealand. We can't wait to see their project outcomes!
We had a very productive PTA meeting and we are excited to have our first Year 1 and 2 disco next Friday with Crazy M. Details have been sent out by the PTA today.
They are also busy organising our Christmas Raffle; if anyone has any new prizes they would like to donate to the Raffle, please send them in at any time.
We had a fantastic session with Isaac from Hampshire Cricket on Tuesday. Our children loved the assembly and looking forward to cricket on Tuesdays. We hope we can get outside next week.
Remember the Junior School is organising a firework display at Hoe Road on Saturday-there are tickets still available if you would like to attend.
We hope everybody keeps safe this weekend and remembers to follow the firework code. Have a lovely weekend!
Best wishes

Weekly Update
Fri 21 Oct 2022What a busy half term we have had at BWIS. The classrooms have lovely displays of the children's learning on the walls and the children are very excited to talk to everybody about all the knowledge and skills they have learned.
Lunchtime Clubs
Year 2 have all attended the lunchtime clubs run by all the teachers. These clubs run for two terms and are free to attend. The teachers love getting to spend time with the children in their clubs, and it really is a lovely treat for Year 2.
Birdwatch
The Great Coastal Birdwatch is happening around the Solent this year. If you have a spare day and would like to take part, please visit their website to find out more. It is really easy to do-pick a spot and watch! The link below will tell you more
Newsletter Update
We were reflecting in the staffroom this week on how lovely it has been to be back to normal this year. We are very excited to be doing Christmas performances again and the dates for these are on the back of the end of month newsletter coming out today. We are going back to giving every child a paper copy of the newsletter, as well as posting it on our website, so that you can read it/pin it to fridge for date reminders.
Parking and Traffic
Despite lots of reminders this term, I have had several complaints about safety outside our school , from parents, due to parents parking/using the zigzags as a waiting zone. This is not safe for children trying to cross the road because children are unable to see the traffic when they have to step out between parked cars. I am surprised that any parent would hinder children's safety in this way, when they have small children themselves. I urge everyone to think about the children's safety before they stop their car on places that have been purposefully painted to stop accidents for children coming to and leaving our school. Parking at Hoe Road, Jubilee Hall and the Town Centre is free for the amount of time needed for drop off and pick up. Please use these areas to park and stride when possible. I will be passing your concerns over the local police, as it seems to be a situation that is worsening.
Attendance
You may have read that the government have increased measures on poor attendance in schools. Your child is classed as a 'Persistent Absentee' if their attendance has fallen below 90%, and studies have shown that children who miss this much school time, do not do as well in school over time, and their learning is greatly affected. With all the disruption to schooling over the past few years, it is more important than ever for children to regularly attend school-and parents to ensure this happens. We will be updating everyone on their child's attendance each half term, so you can see your child's attendance as a percentage and be aware of the impact any requested leaves of absence on this percentage.
PTA
Our PTA have been really busy organising events and their sweet shop and colouring competition have had a great response. We are developing a reflection area in our grounds-a space where we can meet as a class/ read stories and have some quiet time in a natural setting. We are also looking to include a sensory element into the learning space. Funds raised this year will be used to fund our normal annual treats and develop this special area. Your support is always greatly appreciated and thank you to all the members who are organising and running the events.
New Parent Walkrounds
We have organised a few New Parent walkarounds for parents who are applying for a school place for 2023. If you know of anyone who missed our open day and would like to look at our school, please encourage them to telephone our office to book on a walkround.
Lastly, we hope you all have some lovely family time this half term and look forward to seeing you in November. Our first day back is an INSET day where staff are receiving trainiing updates and we will see you on Tuesday 1st.
Best wishes

Weekly Update
Fri 14 Oct 2022Thank you for all the harvest donations sent to school this week. The children carried the donations to St Peter's Church, where we had a lovely Harvest Celebration. We had a mixture of prayers, poems and songs and the children had a lovely time. Thank you to Mrs Harrison who stepped in for Reverend Hunt and Mr Harrison who made sure all the electrics were working and the church was nice and warm for us.
We have also been sent the link to Morgan Sindell's site, where there is a little more information about the fire station project and our lovely hoarding design. Please click the link below to find out more!
The PTA have been busy organising events for next half term as well as the colouring competition for Halloween. Please bring your finished pictures to school on Monday and Tuesday, where the PTA will collect them in. They will also be sending out details of the Year 1 and 2 disco in November soon.
Our Parents evenings in November will be face to face this term. They will be from 3.30-6.30 on Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th November. Bookings will be live at 5pm on Tuesday next week, where you can log on to the Arbor app to make your appointment.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend
